Purse Snacks

If you have ever done a round of Whole30 then perhaps you have heard the term Purse Snacks. But as a Certified Integrative Nutritionist I also talk to my clients about this a lot. Basically, we always want to be prepared in case hunger strikes. If you do not have any healthy options in your purse/briefcase/backpack then you will grab the first thing you can find and it’s probably not the most nutritious choice. Stuck in traffic? Meetings ran long? Carpool line taking forever? Long commute home? So many situations where you might have to miss or delay an actual meal. This is when having a healthy option close by saves the day. Here are just a few of my favorites-

  1. Rich Nuts are sprouted nuts that are easier to digest which makes for a happy gut! There are so many amazing flavors including Cinnamon Walnuts, Curry or Sage Cashews, Nuts & Berries, Maple Pecan and Balsamic Walnuts. You can find all the flavors here and if you cannot make up your mind there is a Variety pack. Honestly the most delicious nuts I’ve tasted!

  2. The New Primal Meat Sticks- Whole30 Approved, all clean ingredients and made by the nicest people in Charleston. While they have a full line of sauces, seasonings and jerky products, the meat sticks are super convenient to keep on hand. My favorite is probably the Cilantro Lime Chicken sticks. There is also a kid line which my grandchildren ask for every time they come over! You can use my code to save 15% as well. Just use ATTHETABLEWITHT when placing your order here. They are also available in most grocers.

  3. Apples-Back to basic with a great fruit option. Even better…pair it with a healthy fat like the nuts to get a balanced snack which keeps blood glucose levels stable.

  4. Packaged olives- the super fat king is available in travel packs. I get mine on Thrive Market but I’ve also seen them on Amazon. You can always make up your own bag at home as well.

  5. Carrot sticks- Baby carrots or carrot sticks are filling and provide a nice crunch. I also like to pair them with a protein or healthy fat for a well rounded snack.

  6. Protein Bars- as far as Protein Bars go, RX is a great brand since they have simple ingredients and no added sugar. I also like that they have egg white protein vs soy protein isolate which is not the healthiest option. You can find RX bars almost anywhere (including airports) or on their website.

You also might want to check out Sun & Swell, a company that specializes in organic, gluten free and vegan foods. They have an amazing selection of energy bites, nuts and other snacks. And if you use my code, THERESA.N10 you can save $10 off your first order.

Hope this inspires you to stash those snacks for emergencies! When hunger strikes you want to be ready until you can get to your next well rounded meal. These are just a few ideas but the main thing is to prep ahead of time. Assembling even a few things on the weekend will help you to be more prepared during the week.

Happy snacking!
