Thanksgiving Makeover

Here we go towards the holiday season which has now started Halloween weekend and rolls right into New Year’s Eve. And you know the drill- come January you are looking for a way to get off the 5-10 pounds you gained, not to mention the way your tummy might feel, sleep issues and all the rest. What if this year is different? What if you still enjoyed the flavors of the holiday but made some modifications so that you do not have the glycemic spike, blood sugar imbalance or food coma you are used to. I’m here to help and we will start with Turkey Day which is ALL about the food right? Check out these flavorful recipes along with some of my favorite tips and tricks to make your life easier.

Turkey-the main event but usually people say the sides are their favorite! But this year focus more on the turkey because…Protein! Nothing bad to say about the bird and here is a delicious recipe to make your guests love the most underrated part of the meal. And check out my favorite pan to cook the star of the show in.

Mashed Potatoes- everyone’s favorite and the Instant Pot is the best way to make these yummy spuds. I use this recipe because I’m lactose intolerant and I know I will feel so much better if I eat these. They are so flavorful that your guests won’t even notice the difference and all of your lactose free friends will thank you.

Stuffing- gluten free? No problem! Check out this recipe and amazing dish to bake it. You can really use any gluten free bread and I personally add some spicy Italian sausage to amp up the flavor.

Sweet Potato Casserole- I think we are all so over the marshmallow topped sweet dish disguised as a vegetable aren’t we? Try this recipe instead and let me know what you think.

Green Beans- let’s really get these super stars out of the cream of mushroom soup and eat them for the nutrient punch they are made for. I keep it very simple by buying them in the steamer bags, microwave till tender and then toss in a pan like this with some minced garlic, olive oil and salt. After the garlic browns simply toss in some slivered almonds for a nice crunch. Nutritious and underrated so add some to your plate!

Cranberry relish- Some love it and some hate it…I will give you a healthy recipe and then I will share that I buy this every year from Williams Sonoma. It’s sooo delicious and saves me from having to do one more thing that day.

Desserts should have their own post because we all know we save room (or maybe we just stuff it) for the best part of the day. Let me share some of my go to “healthier” recipes that you might want to try.

Pumpkin Pie

Apple Pie

Cranberry Bars

Enjoy this special time of year and all of memories that come with it.
