Winter Beauty Picks

As I approach my 60th birthday I’m especially aware of how the winters here in PA take their toll. Dry skin, chapped lips and just a dullness to my skin overtakes that summer glow. I listen to a lot of podcasts on beauty and consider myself a product junkie. For better or worse I love trying new beauty trends and hanging out in Sephora or Ulta are a fun time to me. Here are several of my go to finds that have really helped my post menopause skin, winter, spring, summer and fall (but especially winter!) Let me know your favorites!

Face wash- I definitely love a face wash that calms while removing all traces of make up and recently found this one. I love the turmeric for inflammation. I also love the brand FARMACY and their face wash.

Day Moisturizer- For daytime I discovered a very inexpensive but effective cream that has SPF but no greasiness. You can find it at most Walgreens or online here. It’s important to wear SPF in winter too!

Eye cream- Love the tint in this eye cream as I suffer from dark circles (thanks Italian heritage!) Just the right amount of color before a apply my primer and foundation.

Face peel- Honestly I love most of the products from Dennis Gross and I also have the Red Light Therapy mask. But these peels are fantastic for removing dead skin cells. Step one is the peel and Step two is to neutralize the peel.

Exfoliant- The key to healthy, glowing skin is exfoliation. I have several products that I have in rotation. Barbara Sturm has this incredible Enzyme Cleanser that acts as an exfoliant. I also love ESPA Refining Skin Polish which I first found at a spa in Florida. Dermalogica has a great microfoliant as well.

Under eye puffiness- Ice, Ice baby…first thing I do when I wake up is to ice roll my face with this hot mess ice roller. It feels invigorating and tightens your pores. I keep it in the refrigerator so it’s always super cold and ready to go in the am. Keep it cool in this mini bathroom refrigerator. I also apply these eye masks after the ice while I make my coffee and get ready to work out. Ten minutes and voila, eyes are brighter and puffiness gone. If you’ve ever seen celebrities with gold under eye pads on before an event…this is what they are wearing!

Night cream- I first heard about this moisturizer from make up artist Bobbi Brown. It’s pricey but nothing has changed my skin like this cream…nothing. A little dab works wonders!

Face spritz/toner- Tata Harper creates her products on a farm in Vermont and the smell of this mist is ah-mazing. The botanicals just makes me happy and relaxed. Also has incredible benefits, as do all of her products.

Chapped hands- I absolutely love the Satin Hands treatment from Mary Kay. Three steps and your hands will feel silky smooth. I recently did this on my granddaughters whose hands are chronically dry from washing and not drying properly. It’s truly the best!

Chapped lips- prevention is the most important part of healthy lips. Don’t wait for the cracked and painful lips to take action. Old fashioned brown sugar and water definitely helps if you need to get off dead skin first, but applied nightly, this lip mask will keep lips soft and supple. Still need a scrub? Try this Sugar.

Hope this directs you to some incredible new finds! As we age our skin is incredibly important to take care of and pampering it with some excellent products really makes a difference. Stay out of the sun, hydrate and invest in yourself.
